អ្វីដែលលោក សម រង្ស៊ី បានសង្ស័យមុនគេ ពីមូលហេតុ ដែលជនជាតិខ្មែរ មានភាពរឹងមាំជាងគេ ចំពោះជំងឺកូវីដ-១៩ ទើបតែបានទទួលការបញ្ជាក់ខ្លះៗ ថ្មីៗនេះ កាន់តែច្បាស់ថា ឈាមដែលមានលក្ខណៈពិសេសខ្លះ អាចជួយទប់ទល់ជំងឺកូវីដ-១៩ បានយ៉ាងតិចក៏មួយកម្រិតដែរ។ ចំពោះជនជាតិខ្មែរ លក្ខណៈពិសេស ក្នុងឈាមនោះ គឺសារជាតិ អេម៉ូក្លូប៊ីន អឺ (Hémoglobine E) ក្នុងគ្រាប់ឈាមក្រហម ដែលជាលក្ខណៈសម្គាល់ សម្រាប់ជនជាតិខ្មែរ ដែលតពូជ ពីខ្មែរសម័យអង្គរ។ សារជាតិ អេម៉ូក្លូប៊ីន អឺ (Hémoglobine E) ក្នុងឈាមនេះ ជួយការពារពីជំងឺគ្រុនចាញ់ផង ហើយក៏អាចជួយការពារពីជំងឺកូវីដ-១៩ ផងដែរ។
ទោះជាយ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ សូមរក្សាការប្រុងប្រយ័ត្នជានិច្ច ទាក់ទងអនាម័យ ការពាក់ម៉ាស់ និងការជៀសវាងនៅជិតគ្នាពេក និងច្រើនគ្នាពេក។

(*) IMPORTANCE OF GENETIC FACTORS IN RESISTANCE TO COVID-19
The populations of Southeast Asia, Northeast India and Africa have certain hereditary variations or “anomalies” in their hemoglobin which are often not pathological. These notably include hemoglobin E (HbE) in Southeast Asia and Northeast India and hemoglobins C and S in Africa (HbC and HbS). These populations seem to be relatively spared by COVID-19 and especially the most serious cases. These hemoglobin “anomalies” are often found in areas where malaria is endemic and where they offer a form of protection against malaria.
Given the possible pathological link between malaria and COVID-19 -- see (1), (2) and (3) -- it’s worth asking whether hemoglobin E, which possibly protects the populations of Southeast Asia and Northeast India against the worst kinds of malaria, could also protect them against the most severe forms of COVID-19. This point is even more interesting as recent scientific studies show the importance of genetic factors in the immune system response to coronavirus, notably concerning the red blood cells where hemoglobin is found.

In his article in The Geopolitics on May 13, Sam Rainsy was the first to advance the hypothesis according to which hemoglobin E, characteristic of peoples of Khmer descent, offers protection against COVID-19.

(**) IMPORTANCE DES FACTEURS GENETIQUES DANS LA RESISTANCE AU COVID-19

Les populations de l'Asie du Sud-Est, de l'Inde et de l'Afrique qui sont porteuses de certaines variantes (ou "anomalies" héréditaires souvent non pathologiques ) de l'hémoglobine -- en particulier l'hémoglobine E en Asie du Sud-Est et en Inde, et les hémoglobines C et S en Afrique -- semblent relativement épargnées par le COVID-19, notamment de ses formes les plus graves. Ces "anomalies" de l'hémoglobine se rencontrent souvent dans les pays et régions impaludées d'une manière endémique où elles offrent précisément une forme de protection contre la malaria.
Etant donné les liens pathologiques possibles entre le paludisme et le COVID-19 -- voir (1), (2) et (3) -- on peut se demander si l'hémoglobine E qui protégerait les populations de l'Asie du Sud-Est et du Nord-Est de l'Inde contre les formes les plus sévères du paludisme, ne les protégerait pas aussi contre les formes les plus sévères du COVID-19. Ces interrogations sont d'autant plus intéressantes que de récentes études scientifiques montrent l'importance des facteurs génétiques dans la variation de la réaction immunitaire face au coronavirus, notamment au niveau des globules rouges où se trouve l'hémoglobine.
