Urgency Resolution on Cambodia

Recalling the positions on Cambodia adopted by the 200th EC and the 62nd Congress Expressing concern on the transformation of Cambodia into a one-party dictatorship
Deploring the continuous detention of the CNRP Leader Kem Sokha under severe restrictions to meet and speak, including with UN envoys
Raising alarm at Hun Sen’s order to the military to shoot at the opposition leader Sam Rainsy should he attempt to cross the border
Stressing that instead of acting in line with its international obligations, China is using the crisis to own economic, political and military advantage
Welcoming the EU decision to launch a suspension procedure of Cambodia’s EBA trade preferences
Considering the Statement of the exiled CNRP leaders to return to Cambodia in 2019 to foster a non-violent political and democratic pursuit
The Executive Committee
Renews its call on the regime to immediately drop all charges against Kem Sokha and rulings against opposition politicians, including Sam Rainsy
Expresses firm support to the exiled CNRP leaders to return home to find solutions for the release of Kem Sokha and to restore democracy
Invites the LI membership to accompany the exiled CNRP leaders on their return to Cambodia and thus guarantee their security.
